Here’s the worst mileage that you can expect from the new generation of KTM’s large single-cylinder adventure bike
We have been super impressed with the new KTM 390 Adventure. It rights all the wrongs of the previous generation, offering a very versatile, capable and tech loaded motorcycle. It costs a pretty penny but the experience really justifies the price. And you can read about it in depth in this story.
However, if you were keen to know how fuel efficient the 399 cc mill is on the bike, well, we have got the answers. So, here’s the worst fuel efficiency that you should expect in case you are considering getting the bike:
Scenarios | Fuel Efficiency |
City | 27.15 kmpl |
Highway | 25.60 kmpl |
Fast weekend thrills | 21.34 kmpl |
The numbers that we managed to achieve are far better than what the same mill managed on the 390 Duke. Considering the softer throttle maps as well as the shorter final drive of the 390 Adventure, the bike is a lot less stressed on the highway doing serious speeds. Furthermore, the new ‘Crawl’ functionality, which increases engine revs slightly at low rpm to avoid stalling in bumper to bumper traffic, also helps eke out a great city score.
At Acko Drive, we ride a motorcycle for 500 km with the split being 350 km on the highway, 50 km in the city and 100 km of canyon twisty roads. This gives a holistic view of how the bike performs in every scenario. The rider (100 kg) remains the same, with the aim to not ride the bike ultra slowly or conservatively. Hence, with the 390 Adventure, the highway stint was done with the speeds ranging between 110-120 kmph, between 55-65 kmph in the city and gung ho in the twisties. By following this method, we are able to get a worst case scenario number.
Considering the above figures, one should expect between 28-30 kmpl in mixed riding conditions. While the engine on the 390 Adventure allows the rider to settle into a calm pace, it remains a KTM. Hence, riding it a bit spiritedly will definitely give you a lot of thrills.
