Once launched, the updated Volkswagen Taigun will continue to lock horns with Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Renault Duster, and Skoda Kushaq to name a few.
Volkswagen is all geared up to launch the Taigun facelift on 9 April 2026. The German carmaker has teased the updated SUV on a couple of occasions on its social media handles. This will be the first significant update to the Taigun ever since it was first launched in early 2022. The Taigun facelift is set to launch shortly after the Skoda Kushaq facelift, which debuted last month.
The company has officially started manufacturing the facelifted Taigun at the Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) facility in Pune. As the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift rolls out of the assembly line, here’s a quick rundown of everything that we know about the upcoming iteration of the compact SUV.
Recent spy shots point to a mild but noticeable design refresh for the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun. Up front, the changes appear fairly restrained, there’s a tweaked LED DRL signature, a reworked bumper with blacked-out elements, and a fresh set of alloy wheel designs. Around the back, the updates seem to follow a similar approach, with revised LED tail lamps and a slightly altered bumper layout.

That said, a few elements could make the facelift stand out a bit more. Some test mules have hinted at full-width LED light bars at both ends, along with illuminated Volkswagen badges, something we’ve already seen on larger models sold globally. The move to all-LED headlamps is also expected, which should give the Taigun a sharper, more up-to-date lighting signature overall.
On the inside, Volkswagen is likely to focus on adding more features rather than reworking the entire layout. The updated Taigun could come equipped with a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with navigation support, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There’s also talk of a rear seat massager—still a rare feature in this segment—along with ventilated and powered front seats. A Google-based AI companion app may also be part of the package, though its exact functionality remains to be seen.

Mechanically, there aren’t expected to be any major surprises. The Taigun will likely continue with its current set of turbo-petrol engines. The smaller 1.0-litre TSI unit produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm, while the 1.5-litre TSI offers a stronger 148 bhp and 250 Nm.
Gearbox options should remain familiar too, including a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. However, the 1.0-litre version is expected to get an additional option in the form of an 8-speed torque converter automatic. This transmission has already made an appearance on the Skoda Kushaq, and its inclusion here could broaden the Taigun’s appeal, especially for buyers prioritising smoother low-speed drivability.
