We expect the Tata Nexon CNG with an AMT to be introduced in the market later this year, around Diwali most likely.
Tata Nexon became the best-selling SUV in FY2026 clocking 2,16,054 units across the fiscal year and a 32 percent growth over the previous year. Among the several positive aspects, one major factor that has made the Nexon so popular in the market is the fact that Tata Motors has constantly kept updating the sub-compact SUV in order to stay ahead of the competition.
First launched in 2017, the Tata Nexon has already received two major facelifts, one in February 2020 and the other in September 2023. A test mule of the Nexon was recently spotted with camouflage wrapped around. This indicates that Tata Motors is set to introduce another set of updates to the Nexon.
Despite being fully camouflaged, the test unit of the Nexon seen in the recent spy images appears to be similar to the current. There are no significant visual differences in styling except for a new set of alloy wheels. The front as well as the rear ends of the car remain unchanged with the same LED headlights, taillights and DRL signature carried over from the current model. We expect this upcoming iteration of the Nexon to come with a small mechanical update.

In our opinion, Tata Motors could be testing out an AMT gearbox with the CNG powertrain which is currently missing in the Nexon. The CNG version of Nexon is exclusively available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Tata models like Punch and Tiago already offer an AMT gearbox with the CNG powertrain.

The Nexon CNG will feature the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that pushes out a detuned 99 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. The AMT version is also expected to develop this output. It would also feature Tata's dual-cylinder technology to maximise boot space. Besides CNG, Tata Motors will offer two other engine options namely — 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine — with gearbox options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed DCT.

Besides the addition of an AMT gearbox, Tata Nexon is expected to offer a similar set of features as the current one as it happens to be one of the feature-rich cars in its segment. These will include Ventilated front seats, Panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, Level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, and a10.25-inch digital driver’s display to name a few.
