Fans of the Superb rejoice! Skoda Auto India is launching the fourth-gen Superb in India later this year. The full-size sedan made its India debut at the 2025 Auto Expo and it is expected to launch by September this year. Unlike the Kodiaq, which will be assembled in India, the Superb will come as a completely built unit (CBU).
Petr Janeba, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said in an interview with Acko Drive, “In India, Superb is one of the cars that makes Skoda very successful and that a lot of people still remember. A lot of people are asking us to bring it back. It unfortunately cannot come as a parts and components car like it was before.”
Janeba also said that the CBU route for the Superb will affect the sales volume of the Superb. While initially it will come with a petrol engine, a diesel engine is also being considered for the India-spec car. He added, “If you look at the premium brands, most of their limousines are being sold as diesel. It is still in demand. It is because of the torque, (and) because of the comfort. But still, I mean most of the superbs we have sold in the past are diesel and there is a certain legacy.”
Globally, the Superb is available with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid assist, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Skoda is likely to bring the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine first. It is available in two states of tune – 201 bhp with 20 Nm and 261 bhp with 400 Nm. Both are available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the latter also gets the option of a four-wheel drive (4WD) system. It’s unlikely that the 4WD Superb will come to India.
