While Aprilia India is just a week away from the launch of the new Tuono 457, its Chinese arm is bringing back another naked bike from its past: the Shiver 900. It was in production until 2020, after which Aprilia discontinued it due to declining demand. Back then, it was powered by a 896.1 cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin engine that was good enough for 95 bhp and 90 Nm. The latest iteration has remained mechanically the same too, except for a few aesthetic changes.
It all started in 2022 when Aprilia's Chinese partner, Zongshen-Piaggio, showcased a concept bike based on the Shiver called the Zongshen Cyclone RA9. Later, the bike was registered in the Chinese market with revised body covers but under Zongshen-Piaggio's second brand, Gilera.
In its latest iteration, the bike carries forward a body design similar to when it was in production last. But instead of the new side-by-side headlight that the GLR900 boasted, the production-spec Shiver 900 debuts with the same headlight cluster albeit with LED lights.
It continues to be built around the same trellis architecture as before, which is suspended upon Kayaba-sourced 41 mm USD fork and alloy swingarm suspension. The 320 mm double disc and 240 mm rear disc combination have also remained the same. The only new bit this time around is the addition of keyless ignition, which gets you a smart key.
Other than that, the Aprilia Shiver 900 is still essentially the same bike as before. It will be sold in China and at 68,800 yuan (which is equivalent ₹8.17 lakh, excluding taxes), the new Shiver 900 comes across as quite the expensive proposition in the country. Given how Aprilia has launched the bike exclusively in China, the chances of the Shiver 900 coming to India is next to nil.
