Ather Energy has issued a clarification with regards to the fire incident that broke out near Palam-Vihar on Old Delhi-Gurugram road around early morning on Wednesday. A truck transporting Ather scooters via the Hosur road was at the center of this incident. Ather says that the truck caught fire when it came in contact with the low-hung high-voltage cables while pulling over to the left, as a result of which the cables snapped leading to a spark and finally fire.

Timely detection of the fire gave enough time for the driver and its helper to escape from the vehicle. Moreover, Ather’s investigation has further helped determine that the scooters in the upper deck at the back of the truck caught fire due to the packaging material used. Corroborating further by checking CCTV footage, the driver’s account of the sequence of events, and the data from the scooters, Ather has also concluded that there was no sudden spike in the temperature of the scooter’s dashboards, along with that there was no anomaly detected in the batteries at the same time - thus the batteries and scooters were not the source of the fire.
To ensure that such incidents don’t repeat in the future, Ather Energy has written to relevant authorities regarding this risk in multiple areas and is working closely with them to address this.
