Sri Lanka is the second international destination for the Bengaluru-based startup.
Ather Energy announced today that it will be commencing operations in Sri Lanka soon. The island nation will be the second international market for the Indian EV startup. Ather will open its first dealership in the Sri Lankan market in the next quarter via a collaboration with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd and Sino Lanka Private Limited. Ather had started its international journey last year by entering the Nepalese market where it has three experience centres and seven fast-charging grids.

Evolution Auto Pvt Ltd will handle the sales and service operations for Ather scooters in Sri Lanka and will also be setting up a network of fast-charging stations across the country. The EV brand hasn’t specified which products will be sold in the island nation, but we expect both the 450X range and the Rizta electric scooters to go on sale. Ather Energy recently became a unicorn after raising ₹600 crore ($71 million) from the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and is also rumoured to be soon listed on the stock exchange similar to its arch rival, Ola Electric. Speaking on the new announcement, Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, said “With the increasing cost of ownership of petrol vehicles and the economic and environmental benefits of electric vehicles, the Sri Lankan market has shown an increasing preference for EVs. Ather’s electric scooters are known for their performance, design and reliability, through which we aim to appeal to new-age Sri Lankan customers, who appreciate quality modern products. Our partnership with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd. will enable us to deliver the customer experience that Ather is known for, to our customers in Sri Lanka, while also focusing on setting up well networked charging infrastructure for EV users.”
