Could we finally see the arrival of the Tenere 700?
Yamaha has been pretty tight lipped about its plans for quite a few years. The company hasn’t released brand new models since the R3 and MT-03, which too came out in 2023. Hopefully, we see some action from the Iwata-based bikemaker this year.
At a recent dealer event, Yamaha had showcased plans of updating its popular FZ series models with the 149 cc air-cooled engine getting the benefit of an integrated starter motor system. This is something that Yamaha already has on board its 125 cc scooters with the mild hybrid boost tech also making its way onto the commuter motorcycles. In fact, the top spec FZ as well as the retro-styled FZ-X are touted to get colour TFT screens.
Prior to EICMA 2024, Yamaha brought styling and features updates to the European-spec R3 and MT-03. We expect the same to be brought to our country pretty soon and the Auto Expo could be a neat moment to showcase said updates. Having said that, prices for the updated 300 cc Yamahas are likely to go up, making the already expensive Yammies even costlier.
Yamaha has a fleet of flex fuel products in its Brazil portfolio that it might once again showcase in the country. We had seen the FZ Fi in 2023 and given the government’s push towards flex fuel products, Yamaha could oblige and launch one soon.
Yamaha has let down Indian enthusiasts for years in this department. It was one of the first international brands to ride its big bikes officially into the country, but there have been no new large Yamahas since nearly COVID-19 took place. Hopefully, in 2025, Yamaha changes matters and brings in some exciting bikes like the MT-07, R7 and, obviously, the Tenere 700. We are hoping for some good news from the brand at Bharat Mandapam soon.
