Auto Sales May 2024: Hyundai India Registers 6.6% YoY Growth

Exports of Hyundai India grew by 31 per cent, while domestic sales only grew by 1 per cent compared to May 2023.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) sold 63,551 units in May 2024, registering a Year-on-Year (YoY) growth of 6.63 per cent. This includes 49,151 units sold in the domestic market as well as 14,400 units exported.

Like last month, domestic sales of Hyundai India saw a growth of only one per cent compared to May 2023. However, Hyundai saw a massive increase in exports with a growth of 31 per cent compared to the same period last year. 

Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai India, said, “We have maintained a healthy total sales volume in May 2024, despite a week-long routine bi-annual maintenance shutdown at our Sriperumbudur factory. SUVs continue to be a growth driver for HMIL, accounting for more than 67 per cent of domestic sales last month. Our rural penetration stood at a healthy 20.1 per cent in May.”

In the period of January to May 2024, Hyundai India sold more than 3.20 lakh units, registering a YoY growth of 7.2 per cent. This includes domestic sales of nearly 2.60 lakh units (up by 5.55 per cent compared to the previous year) and exports of 61,300 units (up by 15 per cent compared to the same period last year).

Compared to April 2024, Hyundai India’s sales have seen a downtick of 0.2 per cent. In April 2024, Hyundai India sold 63,701 units with a YoY growth of 9.5 per cent. In the domestic market, HMIL sold 50,201 units and exported 13,500 units in April 2024.
