Heavy rainfall in key states continues to impact sales of all segments.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released its latest report on the Indian automotive industry's performance for September 2024 and the July-September quarter of 2024-25, revealing a mixed picture across different vehicle segments.
In September 2024, the industry produced a total of 27,73,039 units across all categories. Passenger vehicle sales reached 3,56,752 units, while three-wheeler and two-wheeler sales stood at 79,683 and 20,25,993 units respectively.
For the July-September 2024 quarter, total production hit 80,73,564 units. Passenger vehicle sales were 10,55,137 units, commercial vehicles sold 2,20,643 units, three-wheelers reached 2,08,718 units, and two-wheelers dominated with 51,79,349 units sold.
Looking at the broader April-September 2024 period, the industry's total production was 1,56,22,388 units. Passenger vehicle sales totalled 20,81,143 units, commercial vehicles reached 4,45,004 units, three-wheelers sold 3,73,799 units, and two-wheelers led with 1,01,64,980 units.
Speaking on the occasion of the latest sales result, Shailesh Chandra, President, SIAM, noted, “The overall Indian automobile industry remained strong in Q2 2024-25 with 8.9% growth compared to Q2 2023-24. Two and Three-Wheelers continued to post strong growth of 12.6% and 6.6%, respectively, while Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles posted some degrowth in Q2 of 2024-25 compared to 2023-24.”
“Heavy rainfall in key states and almost the entire ‘Shradh’ period falling in the month of September, did impact the sales numbers of some of the segments,” he further added.
