Rajiv Bajaj had claimed that the new CNG bike would have half the running costs of an equivalent petrol powered motorcycle.
Bajaj might have had to delay the launch from June 18 but the world’s first CNG-powered motorcycle will burst on to the scene on July 5. The alternative fuel source has never been used on a two-wheeler and it potentially promises to be a game changer for commuter motorcycles in the country.
We have spotted the 125 cc CNG bike on test a couple of times, with two distinct trims seen during the testing phase. Sources within the company had given us an inkling that the bike would bear the ‘Bruzer’ tag. However, Bajaj’s Rakesh Sharma has since denied that the name would be attached to the final product and remain an internal project codename.
At the launch of the Pulsar NS400Z, Rajiv Bajaj had claimed that the CNG bike would have a lot of benefits. Firstly, the running costs of the vehicle are almost half of that of its petrol-powered counterpart. Secondly, depending on the success of the bike, Bajaj will be able to scale up or down the cubic capacity to cater to different segments.
What remains to be seen is just how the two-wheeler buyer responds to the bike and what struggles might arrive with respect to the fuel filling and storage aspects. The safety angle surrounding the cylinder would have been addressed by Bajaj as that would be the primary concern for many.
Expect Bajaj to price this motorcycle competitively, on par with other 125 cc rivals like the Honda Shine 125 and the Hero Super Splendor. And considering the CNG bike will be supplemented with a new Pulsar N125, which will be launched by the festive period, Rajiv Bajaj’s ambition of overtaking Honda in the above 125 cc motorcycle space seems to be on track.
