Bentley is all set to introduce the updated iteration of its four-door grand tourer – the Flying Spur – with its new hybrid V8 engine. Christened the Ultra Performance Hybrid Powertrain, Bentley claims that with this new hybrid setup, the upcoming Flying Spur will be the ‘most powerful, most dynamic, and most efficient four-door car’ in Bentley’s 105-year history. So, starting with the basics:
Powering the new Bentley Flying Spur will be the brand’s new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine married to a ‘powerful and compact electric motor’ bringing the total output to a behemoth 771 bhp and 1,000 Nm. Consequently, the new Bentley Flying Spur produces 147 bhp and 100 Nm more power and torque than the outgoing W12 engine that powered the current Flying Spur which was introduced in 2019.
What’s more? With the electric motor paired to a 25.9 kWh battery pack, the Bentley Flying Spur can do 45 miles (i.e. 72 km) of range on silent electric power, and a total of 500 miles (i.e. 804 km of range).
By combining the turbo V8 engine with an electric motor, Bentley engineers have been able to improve the ‘power and torque’ delivery across the full rev range. Additionally, the new Flying Spur will be available with a boost function, which will increase performance with strong neck-bending acceleration.
Bentley engineers were very conscious while developing the exhaust note of the new Flying Spur by deliberately straying away from implementing any artificial or electronic enhancement – thus ensuring its iconic cross-plane sound quality is retained.
Aside from the powertrain updates, Bentley has not revealed much about the upcoming Flying Spur. We do expect the GT car to receive a few tweaks to its exterior styling. Besides that, expect the new Bentley Flying Spur to be introduced with new colour options, and premium quality oozing from every nook and corner.
