These top 5 five electric two-wheelers further pushed the boundaries of performance, practicality and exclusivity.
2024 saw the electric two-wheeler segment in India grow from strength to strength. After all this segment registered its highest sales this year which translated to a stronger market share. These five electrics, though, stood out for their unique reasons:
The Ather 450 Apex represents the pinnacle of Ather's engineering excellence. This final iteration of the beloved 450 platform doesn't just impress with its striking Indium Blue-hot orange colourway - it delivers exhilarating performance with a true top speed of 100 kmph. The innovative Magic Twist regenerative braking system and intelligent motor management showcase Ather's commitment to sophisticated engineering. While priced at ₹1.89 lakh, the premium package includes 750W charger, special hand-painted ISI helmet, and TPMS, as standard. Lastly, at just ₹14,000 more than the 450X Pro Pack, this limited edition model offers compelling value for enthusiasts seeking the ultimate expression of Ather's technology.
The Kinetic E-Luna represents the resurrection of a beloved commuter brand with a modern electric twist, offering a quirky and practical urban mobility solution. Powered by a 1.2 kW motor and a removable 2 kW battery pack, this electric moped delivers an honest 50 kmph top speed and a real-world range of 55-60 km. While its low, narrow seat and slim build make it accessible to riders of all sizes, the E-Luna truly shines in its utilitarian focus. However, at ₹80,000, some compromises become apparent like basic features, rough ride quality, and average fit-finish levels. While it may not appeal to the urban youth, the E-Luna finds its sweet spot in tier-3 cities and rural areas where its rugged build and low operating costs make it a practical choice.
The Ather Rizta marks a significant shift from the brand's sporty DNA, targeting families with a more approachable and conventional design. This family-focused electric scooter impresses with its thoughtful features, including the largest seat in any Indian scooter, a generous 34-litre storage space, and clever accessories like a removable storage organizer. Powered by a 4.3 kW motor, the Rizta offers a balanced performance with a top speed of 80 kmph and a claimed range of 100 km in Smart Eco mode. The scooter shines with innovative features like Magic Twist regenerative braking and SkidControl (traction control). For more details, check out our review video below:
The new Ultraviolette F77 Mach 2 was launched with more performance and range, and several new features. Despite being powered by the same 10.2 kWh battery, it was paired with a new, slightly more powerful electric motor which produces 40 bhp and 100 Nm. With all of that torque available right at the start, Ultraviolette managed to make the F77 Mach 2 quicker with 0-100 kmph coming up in 7.7 seconds. Not only that, despite an increase in performance, the range of the bike increased too, the top-spec F77 Recon variant can do 323 km of range (IDC-claimed) on a single charge. Also new to the fore were features like 10 levels of regen, three levels of traction control, and stability control. Ultraviolette Automotive managed to make F77 Mach 2 safer and more responsible than before. Priced from ₹2.99 lakh onwards and topping out at ₹3.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) – the Ultraviolette F77 is not a cheap affair, nonetheless, it was one of the most exciting launches of the year.
Lastly, swaying away from all conventional notions of sensibility is the BMW CE 04. It costs a whopping ₹14.90 lakh, weighs 231 kilos, is powered by an 8.5 kWh battery that is good for just 130 km of range on a single charge. But one look at the CE 04, and you will also be ready to shed all your beliefs of what a conventional electric scooter should be. Despite its mammoth size, the CE 04 can do the 0-50 kmph acceleration in 2.6 seconds and can very well sustain a top speed of 120 kmph. So to conclude it all, the BMW CE 04 is not what you need, but rather it's something that you might want someday.
