BMW India will open bookings for the new 5 Series in India on June 22, 2024. The luxury sedan is slated to launch in India on July 24. However, its electric avatar, the i5 has already launched in India in April and is priced at ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India). While BMW India hasn’t given an amount for booking the new 5 Series, expect to pay around ₹1 lakh for it. However, we have reached out to BMW India and will update the story when we receive the booking amount.
The new 5 Series will only be available in India in its long-wheelbase (LWB) version and will rival the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB that’s due later this year as well as the Audi A6. The new 5 Series is significantly longer than its predecessor, measuring an extra 212 mm in length, 32 mm in width, 41 mm in height and has a 130 mm longer wheelbase.
It has BMW’s new design for the kidney grille, which is also illuminated. It also gets sleek headlamps with two vertically stacked LED DRLs and Matrix High Beam headlamps. In profile, the 5 Series is expected to ride on 18-inch alloy wheels but that could change upon launch. It also gets an illuminated ‘5’ on the C-pillar. At the back, it gets thin taillamps with two LED lighting elements.
Inside, the new 5 Series comes with Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, BMW’s curved display with a 14.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.9-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, and more. However, there are no visible AC vents as they are hidden in the dashboard and controlled by a lever closer to the centre console.
BMW India hasn’t revealed any powertrain specifications for the new 5 Series as of now. However, expect it to come with both petrol and diesel engine options. BMW India also said it will assemble the new 5 Series at its plant in Chennai. This should help keep its price in check but expect it to cost around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
