BMW 310 GS

The BMW G 310 RR still remains on sale as the most affordable bike from the German brand

BMW Motorrad India has silently discontinued the G 310 R and the G 310 GS from the Indian market. According to dealers, new shipments of the bikes haven’t arrived from January 2025 and only the BMW G 310 RR is available for sale. The above doesn’t come as a surprise as BMW had announced huge discounts on the G 310 R and the G 310 GS in late 2024. The BMW G 310 RR (priced at ₹3.05 lakh, ex-showroom) hasn’t faced the axe because TVS is still manufacturing the Apache RR 310 and it’s based on the same. The German brand hasn’t updated the other two bikes to the new OBD2B emission norms, as it will be focusing its attention on the new BMW F 450 GS, which is expected to be launched by end of the year.

Only the G 310 RR survives for now because TVS is still producing the bike.

Both the motorcycles were important products for the German bikemaker as it was the first bikes from the brand to be manufactured in India in collaboration with TVS. The BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS made their India debut in 2018 and came with a premium pricing despite being built in our country. Over the course of time, BMW Motorrad realised its mistake and there was a price reduction, which helped boost sales.

BMW G 310 R
The G 310 platform has been in existence for nearly a decade with no real significant update.

However, both the motorcycles were on sale for close to a decade and were showing signs of aging, especially when compared to products from KTM. At the 2024 EICMA motorcycle show, BMW F 450 GS concept was introduced and it gave a glimpse of the new direction the company is taking for its entry-level offering. The biggest highlight of the concept was the 450 cc, twin-cylinder engine, which fits in well with the BMW badge and positioning. While there is no official word, we expect TVS Motor to build the new BMW 450 cc bikes for our own market and exports.
