BMW has introduced the latest version of its M340i xDrive sedan in India, now priced at ₹74.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The high-performance vehicle is assembled locally at BMW's Chennai plant, marking a move that may improve access and support for the Indian market. This locally manufactured M340i xDrive is the flagship performance variant of the 3 Series lineup.
The new BMW M340i xDrive is powered by a 2998 cc turbocharged inline-six petrol engine that produces 369 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. This setup is paired with BMW’s 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive system, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds. Its electronically limited top speed reaches 250 kmph. The M Sport exhaust system, included as standard, intensifies the car's sporty character with a distinct sound profile.
Driving dynamics are further enhanced by the M Sport rear differential and M Sport suspension, delivering stability and cornering precision aimed at high-performance handling. The M340i’s design reflects BMW’s sporty aesthetic, highlighted by a bold front with an aggressive stance. The vehicle features BMW’s signature black mesh kidney grille, Adaptive LED headlights with blue accents, and M Lights Shadowline, lending a sporty tint to the front fascia.
At the rear, the M340i xDrive features slim, darkened L-shaped LED taillights and a body-coloured M rear spoiler. The sedan rides on 19-inch Jet Black alloy wheels, complemented by red M Sport brake callipers. Colour options include metallic shades such as Dravit Grey, Black Sapphire, Fire Red Metallic, and Arctic Race Blue.
The interior design is crafted to merge luxury with performance-oriented elements. A key feature is the BMW Curved Display, which integrates dual screens for instrumentation and infotainment. The cabin includes sports seats with Leather Vernasca upholstery and a redesigned steering wheel with a red centre marker. Additional interior touches include M High Gloss Shadowline and optional carbon fibre trim strips, which add a performance-focused aesthetic. Audio enthusiasts will appreciate the Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, designed to deliver a premium listening experience.
BMW also offers a range of M Performance Accessories for the M340i xDrive, including carbon fibre elements for those interested in further customizing the car. The M340i is equipped with BMW’s ConnectedDrive technology, featuring Digital Key Plus, Emergency Call, and real-time traffic information. It also integrates BMW’s latest iDrive Operating System 8.5, supporting interaction through touch, gesture, and speech. BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant enhances user interaction, allowing drivers to control various functions via voice commands.
