The company announced that testing for the model has been completed.
BMW has confirmed that the redesigned M5 is set to debut soon, though an exact release date has not been provided. The company has released a teaser image and announced that testing for the model has been completed.
The teaser image reveals a large, illuminated grille, with glimpses of the head- and taillights. The rest of the vehicle is concealed under a cover. Despite this, previous spy photos from early 2022 have given a good indication of the M5's design. It features an aggressive front bumper with angular intakes and a prominent front lip. Additionally, the vehicle will have sporty side skirts, lightweight wheels with a high-performance braking system, a sportier rear bumper, and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
BMW has not disclosed many details yet, but Chairman Oliver Zipse stated that the sedan will be released first, followed by the Touring variant. The Touring will be available in the United States for the first time, although its release in India remains uncertain.
Zipse also confirmed that the new M5 will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain with an electric-only range of more than 70 km. While specific details are sparse, it is expected to share similarities with the XM Label, including a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine, a lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup in the XM Label provides a combined output of 738 bhp and 1000 Nm of torque.
