BMW’s new street naked shares its twin-cylinder engine with the F 450 GS and is expected in India by early 2027.
BMW has unveiled the new F 450 R, the new bike is the second offering to be launched in the 420 cc family after the BMW F 450 GS, which made its India debut earlier this year. Just like its ADV sibling, the BMW F 450 R will be manufactured by TVS Motor at its Hosur facility for the German brand. The styling of the bike isn’t based on that of the BMW S 1000R street naked, but looks like the evolution of that of the BMW G 310 R. The new BMW bike still manages to look muscular and athletic in its form, something a street naked needs to have.
Powering the BMW F 450 R is the same 420 cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as seen on the F 450 GS. The motor produces 48.7 bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW says 80 per cent of the available torque is on tap from 3,000 rpm, which should help with acceleration and overtaking without frequent downshifts. A 135-degree crankpin offset and balance shaft are designed to give the twin a distinctive character while keeping it smooth. The F 450 R uses a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive. Shift Assistant Pro, which allows clutch-free upshifts and downshifts, is included on all versions except the Base model, where it can be added later.

BMW also offers its Easy Ride Clutch on the M Sport with Innovation Package. The system manages clutch engagement based on engine speed, while leaving the clutch lever available to the rider. The bike features a 10-litre fuel tank with a claimed 350 km range and service interval is set at 10,000 km. The bike is built around a steel tubular space frame, with the engine acting as a load-bearing part. A 43 mm upside-down fork sits up front, while the rear uses an aluminium swingarm and a KYB monoshock. Sport Suspension adds adjustable rebound and compression damping at the front. Cast-aluminium wheels carry 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear tyres.
Braking hardware includes a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc. ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, traction control and engine drag torque control are standard, along with Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes. Riding Modes Pro adds a configurable Dynamic Pro setting. The F 450 R has a 790 mm seat and weighs 175 kg ready to ride, according to BMW. A 6.5-inch TFT screen supports calls, music and navigation, while LED lighting and a USB-C port are standard. Heated grips are also included.

The range comprises Base and Exclusive trims, plus M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. Colours include Cosmic Black and Snaefell white with M Motorsport details on the M Sport models. The BMW F 450 R will compete with the likes of the Aprilia Tuono 457 and the KTM 390 Duke in the Indian market. We expect the BMW F 450 R to go on sale in India in the first half of 2027 with prices starting at around ₹4.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
