The big daddy of adventure motorcycles has landed up in the country with prices starting from ₹ 20.95 lakh for the Light White trim.
BMW claims that the new R 1300 GS is virtually 90-95 percent different from the outgoing 1250. This new fifth generation of the four-valve big GS bike has focused on being lighter, faster and a whole lot easier to deal with. For starters, BMW has dropped excess weight from the bike. The R 1300 GS now tipping the scales at 237 kilos, almost 20 kilos discarded in the process.
Of which, 6.5 kg of weight saving has arrived from the new engine itself. The 1300 cc liquid-cooled boxer twin with ShiftCam technology (BMW lingo for variable valve timing) now puts out 143.5 bhp and 149 Nm. That’s nearly 10 bhp and 6 Nm more. But the beauty of the new engine is that it is a lot more symmetrical, the right bank no longer jutting further ahead, causing an OCD trigger.
Speaking of symmetrical, the fascia is also sleeker and aero-optimised. The old asymmetrical look was imposing but BMW claims that for better aero efficiency, and as a result fuel efficiency as well, this new look was adopted.
