BMW R12 Series Seamlessly Blends Classic Styling with Modern Power
A teaser shared on BMW's Instagram suggests the upcoming unveiling of the BMW R12 series of bikes. BMW Motorrad's R nineT is set to undergo a renaming, transitioning to the BMW R12 nineT. The motorcycle has been teased earlier this year, with BMW deliberately keeping technical details under wraps.
These bikes are expected to be a fusion of modern components and technology with a classic BMW air-cooled boxer-twin engine. In terms of specifications, the R12 nineT is equipped with a 1170 cc, air-cooled boxer-twin engine. It is expected to produce 103 bhp at 7,000 rpm, with peak torque of 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm.
The standard R12 model is expected to take on a cruiser design, resembling the BMW R 18. The 93 bhp version is expected to peak at 6,500 rpm, with peak torque of 110 Nm rated at 6,000 rpm. The full-power R12 nineT is anticipated to achieve a top speed of 215 kmph.
The R12 nineT seems to keep the classic look of the R nineT, maintaining retro styling with a classic fuel tank form and side panels reminiscent of BMW motorcycles from the '70s. It will feature a single-sided dual-exhaust. It also gets LED lighting all around.
While the design closely resembles the R nineT, the R12 is expected to sport a new 1200cc boxer-twin engine with redesigned intake and exhaust components.
Full details of the BMW R12 nineT are yet to be disclosed by BMW. There's a possibility that the motorcycle might be available in limited numbers in India in 2024. Keep an eye out for updates as more information is expected to be revealed at the launch tonight.
