BMW Group and Rimac Technology, headquartered near Zagreb, Croatia, unveiled a long-term partnership to revolutionise high-voltage battery technology for electric vehicles (EVs). The joint venture, announced officially by both parties, marks a significant milestone in the development of advancing electric mobility. The partnership intends to co-develop and co-produce solutions tailored specifically for selected battery-electric vehicles, leveraging the strengths and expertise of each company.
The BMW Group brings over 15 years of experience in battery and electric drive system development to the table. With a strategic focus on maintaining its leading position in the premium electric mobility sector, the BMW Group's electrification strategy aligns well with the objectives of this partnership.
On the other hand, Rimac Technology emerges as a prominent Tier 1 supplier specialising in electrification. Boasting a portfolio encompassing high-voltage battery packs, e-axles, electronics, and software solutions, Rimac Technology is known for its technology with a high degree of customisation.
The collaboration signifies a shift for Rimac Technology, transitioning from a niche high-performance solutions supplier to a high-volume Tier 1 supplier. While both partners have not disclosed specific details regarding the strategic tie-up, including its scope and content, further announcements are anticipated.
In parallel with this partnership, the BMW Group is gearing up to debut the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology, promising significant advancements in customer-relevant attributes such as range and charging time.
