Two variants of the battery-electric coupé will reach European showrooms from March 2027, with a 612 bhp M Performance flagship to follow, as BMW's new architecture heads towards its first India outing with the iX3 next year.
BMW has unveiled the iX4, the third model built on its Neue Klasse electric architecture, bringing a coupé-SUV body style to the technology platform that already underpins the iX3 and i3. The German carmaker said two variants, the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive, will go on sale in Europe from March 2027, with the range-topping iX4 M60 xDrive orderable from January that year.
Built at BMW's plant in Debrecen, Hungary, the iX4 uses the sixth-generation BMW eDrive system, with 800-volt architecture and new cylindrical battery cells that the company says lift range by up to 30 per cent and charging speed by a similar margin over the previous generation. The entry iX4 40 xDrive, with an 82.6kWh battery, produces 374bhp and a claimed WLTP range of up to 638km. The iX4 50 xDrive steps up to a 108.7kWh pack, 469bhp and a range of 828km, and BMW said charging at up to 400kW can add 387km of range in ten minutes. All figures are provisional pending final homologation, the company noted.

The M60 xDrive, due later, pairs the larger battery with 612bhp and 875Nm, with BMW citing a 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds — figures the company has flagged as provisional since binding WLTP data is not yet available.
Mike Reichelt, BMW's head of Neue Klasse for the compact and midsize class, said the iX4 was designed to be "a particularly emotional vehicle" within the brand's electric line-up, combining Neue Klasse design language with a distinctly sporting silhouette.
BMW has not announced plans to bring the iX4 to India. Its first Neue Klasse product for the market will be the long-wheelbase iX3, confirmed for launch in 2027, though pricing has not been disclosed. The timing matters for BMW's India business, where electric models already account for a growing share of volume. BMW Group India's EV sales rose 78 per cent in the first half of 2026 to 2,359 units, lifting electrics to 26 per cent of overall sales — its strongest first half on record. Industry estimates put BMW's share of India's luxury electric vehicle segment at over 60 per cent, comfortably ahead of Mercedes-Benz.

That lead looks set to be tested. Mercedes-Benz's locally assembled GLC Electric is due to launch on 4 November, expected to be priced close to where an India-spec iX3 would eventually sit. With India's broader luxury car market growing only in low single digits this year, electric models are increasingly where manufacturers are competing for volume — ground on which BMW, for now, holds the advantage its Neue Klasse range is designed to extend.
