Despite being based on the same platform, the Can-Am Pulse and Origin are completely different motorcycles in the application.
Popular motorcycle brand Can-Am has made a comeback. Moving away from its ICE roots, the Canadian company entered the burgeoning EV scene with not just one but two brand-new electric motorcycles. The new Can-Am Pulse and Origin were unveiled earlier, but we now have access to their spec sheet.
The Can-Am Pulse is designed as a sleek city bike or, as the brand says, an urban roadster. It features an 11 kW (15 bhp) electric motor paired with a massive 8.9 kWh battery pack that provides a claimed range of 100 miles (160 km) in city riding conditions. The Pulse is equipped with KYB suspension, offering 140 mm of travel, and has a selection of riding modes, including Normal, Sport, ECO, and Rain, to cater to different riding environments.
On the other hand, the Can-Am Origin is the adventure-oriented model in the lineup. Featuring the same 11kW (15 bhp) electric motor and 8.9kWh battery, the Origin is geared towards off-road exploration, with dual-sport tyres, increased ground clearance, and a more capable suspension setup. The Origin boasts 255 mm of front travel and an adjustable rear suspension, allowing riders to fine-tune the ride quality. In addition to the standard riding modes, the Origin also offers Off-Road and Off-Road+ modes, which are tailored for more challenging terrain.
Both the Pulse and Origin models are capable of impressive performance, with the Pulse claiming a 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) time of just 3.8 seconds.
Besides unveiling the motorcycles' specs, Can-Am has commenced pre-bookings of the Origin and Pulse across Europe and the USA. While it would have been interesting if Can-Am had brought these exciting electric motorcycles to India, the chances of that happening are slim. Firstly, India has a very niche audience for premium electric two-wheelers, and more importantly, since Can-Am would have to import these bikes to India, both the Origin and Pulse would end up with very high asking prices
