Citroën's new model, the Basalt, is all set to make its global debut in India on March 27. The new SUV Coupe from the French marque will be built on its CMP architecture, and will likely start a new segment in India, provided the Tata Curvv launches after it. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming SUV Coupe from Citroën.

As can be seen from the teaser shared by Citroën, the Basalt will have a sloping roof with a curved rear windshield. The teasers also show the Basalt will have wraparound taillamps with squarish lighting elements and a shark fin antenna. The Basalt is expected to come with a split headlamp design, 17-inch alloy wheels and multiple dual-tone paint options, like the C3 Aircross.
The Basalt is expected to have a similar features list as the C3 Aircross. Expect it to come with features like a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, electrically adjustable ORVMs, digital instrument cluster, reverse camera, manual AC, keyless entry and more. It is expected to get features like a wireless charger, cooled front seats, a 360-degree camera, and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

The SUV Coupe is also likely to be the first Citroën model to get six airbags, seat belt reminders for all seats and ISOFIX anchorages as standard. Citroën announced it will make these features standard across its range from July 2024 onwards.
Citroën has remained tight-lipped about the powertrain of the Basalt but it is likely to get the brand’s tried-and-tested 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that develops 109 bhp and 205 Nm. It is also likely to come with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options.
The Basalt is expected to be priced between ₹12 - 15 lakh (ex-showroom, India) once it is launched later this year. It will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv and other compact sedans like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus. However, it will likely only rival the entry-level powertrain options of the aforementioned sedans.
