The World Urban Car Of The Year is the Citroen C3! The hatchback edged ahead of the ORA Funky Cat / Haomao and the Volkswagen Taigo/Nivus to win the coveted title. A jury of 100 distinguished international automotive journalists from 32 countries selected the winners by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their on-going professional work. Our very own Editor-in-Chief and also the Vice-Chair of the World Car Awards, Siddharth Vinayak Patankar, is part of this very elite jury.
The Citroen C3 was introduced to the Indian markets last year and the company produces the car right here from its Chennai facility. The C3 impressed everyone with both its turbo and naturally aspirated engines but the lack of an automatic transmission, left consumers wanting for more. Citroen managed to achieve a very high level of localisation with the C3 and very recently launched the C3 automatic as well.
The win at the World Car Awards certainly gives the Citroen India an edge over its counterparts. The company has, with this product, put India on the global map as a production and export hub.
