Ahead of the likely merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, a Delhi-based tech entrepreneur has already secured the crucial JioHotstar.com domain name and has emerged as a key player in the potential merger between JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, the media has reported.

In his message, the Delhi-based developer revealed his strategic thinking behind the domain purchase. He explained that early 2023 reports about Disney+ Hotstar's declining user base following the loss of IPL streaming rights prompted his action. The developer connected the dots between Disney's potential market exit and Viacom 18's (owned by Reliance) position as a likely acquirer.
Drawing comparison with Reliance's previous acquisition strategy, particularly the JioSaavn rebranding after purchasing Saavn, the developer anticipated a similar naming convention for a potential Hotstar acquisition. This foresight led to his domain registration, a Hindustan Times report added.
The merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar could create India's largest streaming platform, potentially dominating the country's digital entertainment landscape. We can expect a unified platform under the JioHotstar banner.
The domain JioHotstar.com currently displays a minimalist landing page with the text "JioHotstar: Best of Entertainment, Streaming Soon."
