Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled an Air Pollution Mitigation Plan 2025 on Tuesday, introducing sweeping measures aimed at combating the capital's persistent bad air quality through deployment of technology and stricter vehicle regulations, news agency PTI has reported.
The plan includes the deployment of 2,300 EV across metro stations throughout the city. Starting November 1, only BS-VI compliant vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), and CNG-powered automobiles will be permitted entry into Delhi, marking a significant shift in the capital's transportation policy.
Commercial high-rise structures exceeding 3,000 metres in height, including shopping malls, hotels, and office complexes, will be required to install anti-smog guns under the new regulations.
This move targets pollution reduction in densely built commercial areas.
The government has identified 13 major air pollution hotspots across Delhi where mist sprayers will be installed to provide immediate relief in the most affected areas. This targeted approach aims to address localised pollution concentrations.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be positioned at all entry points to Delhi and at petrol pumps to identify end-of-life vehicles that contribute significantly to air pollution, Mint has reported.
"The ANPR cameras will automatically identify such vehicles, enabling authorities to take immediate action to trace and stop them from operating within the capital," Gupta was quoted as saying by PTI.
The plan includes biannual audits of Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) centres to prevent corruption and ensure compliance. A Smart Intelligent Traffic System will be implemented to reduce traffic congestion, which is a major contributor to vehicular emissions.
"We want only BS-VI, CNG and electric vehicles to enter Delhi from November 1," Gupta stated during the launch.
Construction projects spanning more than 500 square metres must register on the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) portal, ensuring compliance with environmental standards in the construction sector.
