Mahendra Singh Dhoni strikes again! Not on the cricket field but on the petrolhead one

It’s no secret that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a proper petrolhead. There are quite a few videos and photographs on social media which show off MSD’s prolific collection. Now there’s a new one. This time around the former captain of the Indian cricket team is seen driving along in a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II finished in a stunning dual-shade of blue. Just so you know, the Silver Shadow was produced between 1965 and 1980 and was the first Rolls-Royce to come with unibody construction, translating into a lighter and thus more modern feeling car at the time. It was powered by a 6.2-litre, V8 with a four-speed automatic gearbox up until 1970. It was then promptly replaced by a 6.75-litre, V8 with a General Motors-sourced three-speed automatic gearbox.

In 1977, the Silver Shadow II arrived on the scene with a rack and pinion steering, further improving the handling. The ride quality was further improved in 1979 when Rolls-Royce out-sourced the suspension system to Citroën. This helped in creating hydraulic shocks and new triple-circuit brakes, better known to most as the hydraulic self-levelling system. Moreover, Rolls-Royce had a British cousin in the form of the Bentley T-series, which was basically the Silver Shadow in slightly different clothing. That’s not all though, Rolls-Royce had some properly famous clientele for the Silver Shadow. George Best, Freddie Mercury, Paul McCartney, Elton John and The Who drummer Keith Moon. It’s still considered to be one of the British marque’s most popular products ever.

Not too long ago, another video on social media showcased his massive collection of two and four-wheelers along with Indian cricketing legends, Venkatesh Prasad and Sunil Joshi. Some of the motorcycles on display included Kawasaki H2R, Yamaha RD 350, Yezdi Classic and a whole lot more. Curiously, there’s a TVS Ronin in there as well. As far as the cars are concerned, there are a couple of Land Rover Defenders tucked away in a corner alongside a Mahindra Scorpio and the famous modified bright green Jonga.

A great achiever and an even more incredible person. This is a glimpse of his collection of bikes and cars in his Ranchi house. Just blown away by the man and his passion," Prasad tweeted. Both Prasad and Joshi are seemingly mesmerised by Dhoni’s bike collection and there’s some banter between them along with Dhoni’s wife Sakshi. From the Hummer H2 to the recently acquired Kia EV6, Dhoni’s motorcycle and car collection do show us that cricketing legends and automobiles can be a match made in heaven. If you don’t believe us, have a look at Sachin Tendulkar’s car collection from the past. However, it must be said that Dhoni’s collection only seems to be growing and impressing most of us petrolheads out there with each passing day.
