The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered into a strategic agreement with Beckhaul Digital Technologies Private Limited to upgrade Internet connectivity across its entire transit network, according to an official announcement released Friday, as reported by news agency PTI.
Under the terms of the agreement, Beckhaul will deploy around 700 kilometres of fibre optic cable infrastructure along all metro corridors, including the Airport Line.
The implementation will proceed in phases, beginning with the Pink and Magenta Lines, with complete network coverage expected within six months.
The fibre network will serve as critical infrastructure supporting high-speed internet services, benefiting multiple stakeholders including telecommunications providers, internet service companies, data centers, and smart city initiatives. Additionally, the network will facilitate the efficient deployment of 5G services throughout the Delhi-NCR region.
This development aligns with the government's broader digital connectivity objectives. The partnership offers dual advantages: telecommunications companies will be able to deliver enhanced internet performance while DMRC will optimise use of its existing infrastructure assets.
As demand for high-speed connectivity continues to grow alongside 5G expansion, this infrastructure investment positions Delhi to become more technologically connected and prepared for future digital requirements.
