Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer River expanded its footprint in India by entering Hyderabad. Located in Kukatpally, the brand’s only showroom in the land of Nizams, will retail not just its debut electric scooter, the Indie, but also its subsequent accessories and merchandise.
River’s maiden product, the Indie was launched last year at ₹1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, post-subsidies). Hailed as the ‘SUV of Scooters’, the Indie River boasts several unique features, like two instrument clusters, front footpegs, and a massive 43-litre storage space. It is powered by a 4 kWh battery that is good for 120 km of range on a single charge and can be charged from 0-80 per cent in five hours. Performance-wise, the River Indie’s 4.5 kWh electric motor produces 26 Nm which aides the 135 kg electric scooter to dash from 0-40 kmph in just 3.9 seconds.
Backed by established automotive marques like Yamaha Motor Corporation and Toyota’s first standalone venture capital firm Toyota Ventures – River entered Hyderabad in collaboration with Sri Rajrajeshwara EV Mobility. The showroom is spread across 1000 sq.ft, and the property itself has been designed in a manner to showcase the company’s ethos of ‘flow lines’ which in itself represents the essence of rivers.
This new showroom is part of River’s expansion program that will also see the brand add more cities in the future which includes Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. River aims that it will be present in 50+ cities in the country by the end of this year. This expansive plan is further backed by its ambitious production plans wherein the brand aims to manufacture 100,000 units from its 120,000 sq.ft manufacturing plant.
