EXCLUSIVE: 2024 KTM 390 Adventure 3 Variants Planned, Spotted In India

We have just been licking our lips when it comes to KTM spy shots and this one is just making us drool even more as the first shots of the new 390 Adventure on test in India have surfaced online. And we have some really exciting and important news regarding the bike.

The next 390 Adventure will also have three trims but they will be nothing like the current model. Through our sources we have come to know that the new 390 Adventure will be offered in a touring trim, a hardcore R trim and, for the first time in the lower cubic capacity segment, an SMT supermoto avatar! Finally, KTM is living up to its brash, hooligan and mental character and giving us a proper supermoto, even if it is a supermoto tourer.

So, the Touring trim will have alloy wheels with a 19-/17-inch setup. This is likely to run on dual-purpose tyres. Then the more off-road spec R trim will get a 21-/17-inch spoke wheel setup and likely to roll on a more 50-50 biased tyre, something like the Reise Trail R tyres. And the SMT will have 17-inch wheels at both ends with grippy road tyres.

Powering the new 390 Adventure will be the 399 cc motor from the new 390 Duke. It will be making the same 46 bhp and 39 Nm as the Duke. But there will be different sprocketing for the ADV. So, expect a different final drive and hence, a varied riding experience.

Plus, depending on the trim that you select, the experience will vary. So, the SMT might just be quite like a Duke but everything is larger. The Touring variant will calm the motor down slightly for highway use and the R is going to be geared for some serious mud plugging.

To that extent, even the hardware on the three trims might be different. While the bikes will get long travel suspension components that are adjustable, the travel on offer might be a bit different for some. Plus, even the front brake caliper spotted on the R spoke trim is a more conventional floating one and not a radial one, something that has been a staple ingredient on all KTM motorcycles in the country so far.

Finally, the design of the bike also looks far more purposeful and in line with the larger KTM ADVs. The new pincer-face look is smashing and is a far more cohesive experience than the current 390 Duke.

And considering the better packaging of the bike that we experienced on the 390 Duke, we think that the seat height on the upcoming 390 Adventure will not be as tall as before while still increasing the ground clearance on offer.

So, ‘Ready To Race’ might be the motto but we are definitely keen on getting ‘Ready To Tour And Muck About’ with the 390 Adventure. And if KTM does pull off a similar trick of pricing the new ADV at the same price point as the outgoing one, the VFM tag once again comes back into the picture. Else, we think that base SMT trim will be around Rs 3.40 lakh, the Touring trim would come in at Rs 3.60 lakh and for the top R trim, KTM could charge up to Rs 3.90 lakh and still keep it spicy enough for people to buy the bike
