This New Kia SUV positioned between Sonet and Seltos
Kia is all set to expand its SUV portfolio in India and we just caught a glimpse of what it’s bringing to the market. Called the ‘Clavis’ Kia’s upcoming SUV looks pretty much like a compact offering. We call it the Clavis, because Kia India has filed for a trademark with this name, so while there is no confirmation from the car maker.
We do not have any clarity on the dimensions, but the proportions seen in these spy shots clearly indicate that it will be longer in length compared to the Sonet, but smaller than the Seltos. The length might be similar to that of the Kia Soul (4196 mm), which will make is a smaller offering than even the Carens.
The heavily camouflaged car, does not hide the boxy proportions that the Clavis will boast of. The vertically positioned headlamps and DRLs are clearly visible and are a signature of the Clavis. In fact, the clamshell bonnet adds to the ruggedness, while the rounded wheelarches get a polygon shaped black cladding to give it that squarish look. The 17-inch alloy wheels, fill the wheel wells properly, so the SUV look is quite intact.
The flush door handles give it a premium touch and the LED light bar at the rear, which runs the full width of the rear tail lamps, give it a signature look. However, it very closely resembles the design on the EV9, which is expected to launch in India this year.
While the details are not yet out, the fact that Kia is testing the car in India, gives us some idea, about when the Clavis will be launched.
We expect the car to be launched in India by the festive season, so we might see a ‘Block Your Date’ mail from Kia India by August or September this year.
