Reignite the passion for riding in your father with these exciting motorcycles.
The role of a father in a child’s life is immeasurable and it’s a very special bond. From being a guiding light to a support system, a father’s role is very critical and no matter what we do in our life, one is always indebted to their deeds. On a personal note, my father played a crucial role in getting me hooked to automobiles through Hot Wheels and automotive magazines. In fact, I am sure most of the readers learnt to ride under the watchful eyes of their father. But with age and added responsibilities many dad’s lose touch with their two-wheelers and the riding passion fades away. However, if your dad wants to reignite their passion for motorcycles these are some great options for a born again biker father.
If your dad wants to take things in an easy and safe manner, the TVS Raider 125 is a great option to kick start this journey. The Raider 125 is lightweight, the performance is peppy but not scary and the nimble handling makes it a delight for commuting. The 125 cc offering also delivers great fuel efficiency which means running cost would be low. Also, the TFT variant comes with Bluetooth connectivity and lots of other modern features, something that will be new to your dad but also exciting to learn.
When our fathers were in their younger days, the concept of off-road motorcycles didn’t even exist in India. The onset of off-road motorcycles started with the likes of the Hero Impulse and the most affordable motorcycle in this category currently is the Hero XPulse 200. If your dad wants to start his off-road journey, then there is no better learner bike than the XPulse 200.
The Hero offering is affordable, has a decent amount of power and more importantly is lightweight and the long travel suspension is perfect to explore new trails and adventure. The only concern could be seat height, but then again once the off-road bugs a rider adapts to the stumbling blocks easily.
A retro roadster has a charm that’s irresistible to modern bikers and even our father can't resist their appeal. When it comes to roadsters one brand rules the roost and that’s the iconic Royal Enfield. While the Bullet was the only popular RE motorcycle in their younger days, the current Royal Enfield bikes are much better and different.
The Classic 350 makes for a great option with its torque-heavy 350 cc engine that’s perfect for chill riding, additionally this new engine is much more refined than previous RE motors. It also offers a relatively comfortable ride with its revised suspension, but more importantly the Classic 350 has a visual charm that is hard to resist and will definitely plaster a smile on your dad’s face.
If your dad wants a fast and thrilling motorcycle without compromising comfort then the KTM 390 Adventure is the perfect bike for him. Being an ADV tourer, the KTM bike offers good comfort with its long travel suspension. But the key highlight is the 373 cc, liquid-cooled engine that offers blistering performance and makes the 390 ADV a proper mile muncher and a great tourer.
WIth the 390 ADV one can not only have a thrilling ride on tarmac but also explore some great trails. It’s also a fun to ride machine around twisties despite running on a 19-inch front wheel owing to its balanced chassis. The only concern we can see for your father is the tall seat height and getting used to the snappy performance it offers.
The final option is the most expensive bike on this list and also the one with the highest displacement. For our fathers cruiser motorcycles were the ultimate dream as in that era they were the most aspirational form of motorcycles along with superbikes. The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 has the perfect making of a powerful and premium cruiser offering.
The 650 cc, twin-cylinder engine offers spirited performance with lovely refinement, the bike looks beautiful especially in dual-tone shades and the seat height is very accessible as well. The only concern with the Super Meteor 650 is its heft and that will take some time getting used to.
