Ferrari has finally debuted the Luce, its first all-electric five seater with 1,035 bhp and a 531 km range.

Ferrari has officially unveiled the Luce, the first all electric vehicle in the history of the Italian manufacturer. Eschewing the traditional mid engined supercar layout, the Luce is a five seater hatchback that marks a radical departure in design and philosophy. To execute this project, the brand collaborated with the design firm LoveFrom, led by former Apple design chief Sir Jonathan Ive, to create what the company describes as a multidisciplinary perspective on the future of mobility.

The Luce is powered by four electric motors, one at each wheel, producing a staggering combined output of 1,035 bhp. This allows the 2,260 kg vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 309 kmph. The powertrain is supported by a 122 kWh battery pack and an 800V architecture, delivering a claimed driving range of approximately 531 km on a full charge. The motors are split between a 282 bhp unit at the front and a massive 831 bhp unit at the rear.

Designers prioritised aerodynamics and utility, resulting in a five metre long spaceship like silhouette that is the most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari ever produced. The vehicle sits 95 mm lower than the Purosangue, yet offers room for five passengers. The chassis and body are composed of 75% recycled aluminium to reduce carbon emissions. A new vehicle control unit manages the dynamics, while a unique sound system captures vibrations from the rotating components and amplifies them to provide an authentic auditory experience in Performance mode.

The cabin features a mix of high tech displays and tactile physical controls. It includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster with a physical speedometer needle, and a 21 speaker, 3,000W audio system. Notable design details include a three spoke wheel made of 19 separate CNCed parts and a centre console developed with Gorilla Glass technology.

The Luce is expected to attract a new demographic to the brand when it officially enters the market, serving as a high performance electric alternative to traditional grand tourers.
