Google Vids uses AI to generate a storyboard from a user's description.
Google has introduced a new AI-powered video creation tool called Google Vids at its Google Cloud Next conference this week. Vids aim to make collaborative video editing as easy as other Google Workspace tools like Docs and Sheets.
For decades, work has revolved around documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Now, Google is adding video to that mix with Vids, their newest Workspace app. Vids uses AI to generate a storyboard from a user's description and suggests stock videos, images, and music to assemble a first draft. Users can then easily edit the draft, record voiceovers, and add their own media.
What sets Vids apart is its ability to integrate with other Workspace tools seamlessly. Users can access Drive files within Vids and collaborate with others in real time from any browser. The tool handles all aspects of video creation and production, from script writing to final edits. Google's Gemini AI can also generate storyboards, scripts, and images to help users get started.
Once a video is complete, users can share it within Workspace, where others can view, comment on, and make changes—similar to sharing Docs or Sheets. Example use cases include product pitches, training content, and team updates. Google aims to make video creation as straightforward and collaborative as document editing.
Vids is currently in limited beta testing but will roll out to more Google Cloud customers this summer. The release marks Google's entry into the growing video productivity software space and leverages its AI capabilities and existing Workspace user base.
