Priced starting at Rs. 52,999 in India, the Pixel 8a offers many of the same AI-powered features as its more expensive siblings.
After multiple leaks over the past few weeks and months that revealed the exact design and complete specifications of the Pixel 8a, Google has made it official, and we now have prices as well. The company did at least manage to surprise fans with its actual launch announcement, since this phone was expected to be “unveiled” at next week’s Google I/O developer conference. The Pixel 8a will be available only on Flipkart in India, priced starting at Rs. 52,999 for 128GB of storage or Rs. 59,999 for the 256GB option. Preorders began at 9.30pm IST on May 7, and the device will go on sale from 6.30am on May 14.
Confirming pretty much everything we’ve already seen, the Google Pixel 8a is powered by the company’s own Tensor G3 SoC, which is the same processor that the more expensive Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro run on. It is also capable of delivering many of the same AI-powered features such as Audio Emojis, Best Take, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser, which are enabled by Google’s recently announced Gemini AI models. Along with this, you get 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
The device has a 6.1-inch 1080x2400-pixel HDR OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, with Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against scratches. Peak brightness can reach 2000 nits. There’s a 4,492mAh battery and 18W wired charging along with Qi wireless charging. An adaptor isn’t included in the retail box.
Photography is one of the Pixel series’ usual strengths, and the Pixel 8a has a 64-megapixel f/1.89 primary rear camera with optical image stabilisation, along with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera. There’s also a 13-megapixel front camera.
The Pixel 8a has an in-display fingerprint sensor, USB 3.2 Type-C port, and stereo speakers. It supports one nano-SIM and one eSIM. It has been launched with Android 14, and buyers are guaranteed seven years of OS, feature, and security updates.
The device weighs 188g and is 8.9mm thick. It’s available in four colours – Porcelain, Obsidian, Bay, and Aloe – although one detail that wasn’t previously leaked is that the Aloe colour is a limited-edition offering. An IP67 rating indicates water and dust resistance. Google says it has used recycled aluminium and plastic in its construction, as well as 100 percent recycled packaging material.
