The Pixel Fold 2 could be a bold leap for Google's foldable ambitions
Google launched the first Pixel Fold, its first foray into the foldable space, last year. It had a mixed response; the phone was praised for its design, cameras, and software, but the battery life and the design of the hinge were polarising. Now, it seems like it is preparing to launch a successor which features a new design that eliminates the famous Pixel camera visor which has been there with Google’s phones for the last couple of years. Renders have surfaced, courtesy of Smartprix, with a rounded rectangle on the back which has two oval-shaped areas that are stacked together for what looks like a triple camera system.
This image that has surfaced is a CAD render by OnLeaks in partnership with Smartprix showcasing flat rails that are curved at the edges and looks pretty much identical to its predecessor. Likely, this phone will be based on the Tensor G4 chipset which is based on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset and manufactured by the South Korean giant. It will also be the most customised Tensor chip by Google yet. It could also get 16GB RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
The size of the outer screen has increased to 6.4 inches. It also gets an under-display selfie camera on the inner screen, something Samsung has pursued with its Galaxy Z Fold series of foldables for the last couple of years. It also gets a centred hole punch for another selfie camera on the outer screen.
The inner screen gets a 7.9-inch screen. There are usual appointments like the USB Type C port, the speaker grille, SIM tray, and power and volume buttons on the right. There is also a secondary speaker grille on the top with antenna lines cutting through the metal frame. This phone could show up at Google's October Pixel event or could even be teased as early as Google IO in May.
