The legendary Hero Karizma makes a comeback after a 5-year hiatus.
Recently we saw the patent images of the new Hero Karizma XMR 210 surface and we knew the launch was around the corner. Hero MotoCorp has sent out a teaser on its social media accounts confirming the launch date of the upcoming motorcycle. The 2023 Hero Karizma XMR 210 will make its India debut on August 29. The Hero Karizma enjoyed a cult-like status in the early 2000s as it was among the few performance motorcycles on sale. After its split with Honda, Hero introduced many subsequent variants of the Karizma, but the new models couldn’t ape the success of its predecessors. With the stringent BS4 emission norms and dwindling sales figures, Hero decided to discontinue the iconic motorcycle.
However, with the changing market scenario, and the growth shown by the entry-level performance segment, Hero felt that it's time for the Karizma to make a comeback. We have got a glimpse of its styling from a dealer meet and patent images. It will feature a full-fairing with LED lighting and sporty design cues. On the features end, we expect the new Hero Karizma to get a TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation.
It will be powered by an all-new, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Details about the engine is scarce but we estimate it to develop around 25 bhp and 21 Nm of torque. In comparison, the original Karizma was powered by a 223cc engine and we feel it would have been had Hero opted for a 250cc motor. The other big highlight of the new Karizma XMR 210 is the inclusion of a trellis frame, however, surprisingly it misses out on a USD fork, something we recently saw on the Hero Xtreme 160R.
The new Hero Karizma XMR 210 will compete against the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and the Pulsar F250. It’s likely to come with an aggressive price tag and we estimate it to be priced around Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
