While Honda manages to address range anxiety, the new Activa e: still falls short of being the ultimate practical scooter.
Honda’s debut in the electric mobility space yesterday finally commenced with the showcase of the new Activa e:. Its first electric scooter that reimagines the beloved Activa brand for a sustainable future. Set to hit the market in January, 2025, the Activa e: represents a significant milestone in Honda's commitment to green transportation and urban mobility. Here’s what is noteworthy about the new electric scooter:
Practical Swappable Batteries
The Honda Activa e: comes with two swappable batteries tucked inside the boot space. Both have 1.5 kWh capacity each, which is good for a real-world range of 102 km. This is on par with its market rivals like the Bajaj Chetak (103 km) and TVS iQube S (100 km). While the innovative swappable battery system provides flexibility and convenience for urban riders, under-seat storage space gets compromised in a big way. Also, you can’t charge the Honda Activa electric scooter as one will have to swap the batteries at the battery swapping stations which will be set up by Honda.
On-Par Performance With Competition
The Activa e: boasts impressive technical credentials, featuring a PMSM motor delivering 6 kW peak power and 22 Nm of peak torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 kmph in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 80 kmph, which are again on par in the electric scooter segment.

Convenient Underpinnings
The Honda Activa e: is built around a completely new platform and the frame is not designed to accommodate fixed batteries on the floorboard. More so, despite the two batteries, each weighing 10.25 kg, the new Activa e still manages to tip the scale at 119 kg, which is on par with its immediate competitor, the TVS iQube S. A conventional telescopic fork suspends the frame and a single-sided shock absorber. At the same time, braking duties are carried out by a smaller disc brake at the front and a drum brake for the rear.
Latest Digital Connectivity
The Honda Activa e: features a 7-inch TFT display integrated with the optional Honda's RoadSync Duo connectivity app. Unlike its competition, the TVS iQube S, which makes do with just turn-by-turn navigation, riders will get full-map navigation instead. And in addition to the usual music playback controls, one can also initiate calls-on-the-go in the new Activa e:. But that’s not all
Smart Security Features
Honda will also provide the Activa e with its smart keyfob system, which the brand also gives to the Activa and Dio. This fob further offers advanced security functionalities, including remote lock/unlock, keyless start, and geo-fencing capabilities, thus adding an extra layer of convenience and protection for users.

With the Activa e:, Honda plans a phased launch and it will be initially available in major metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Simultaneously, the company is committed to developing swappable battery stations too across the country, which will further help strengthen India's electric vehicle infrastructure in the process as well.
