It is an adventure-ready version of the classic Super Cub
Budding two-wheeled adventure seekers in China have a new option with the launch of the Honda Cross Cub 110. This exciting moped, unveiled by Sundiro Honda (Honda’s Chinese arm), pays homage to the classic Super Cub design with a little bit of off-roading capability. And for the very same purpose, it has certain additions.
It has the basic things that come to mind when we think about a go-anywhere machine. These include block pattern tyres, fork gaiters and headlight protector. Along with there there is a slight increase of ground clearance. It is not seriously high like typical ADVs but it is higher than its siblings. Most of the cycle parts have been borrowed from the other Super Cub bikes. All this makes it look like an adventure-ready machine that is capable of getting muddy but nowhere near to do some serious off-roading.
While the focus on off-road capability is a highlight, the Cross Cub 110 retains the familiar and fuel-efficient 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine found in its Cub siblings. This engine generates 8 bhp and is paired to a 4-speed gearbox. And considering it has a claimed top speed of 85 kmph, this speedy runabout should be perfectly suitable for navigating city streets in a zippy manner.
Currently available only in the Chinese market, the Honda Cross Cub 110 retails for $1,800 USD (₹ 1.40 lakh). India did have its own little adventure with mopeds but the audiences didn’t really warm up to the idea. Hence two-wheelers like the Hero Honda Street 100 didn’t really spawn into something great. Thankfully, we have sporty scooters with the upcoming Hero Xoom 160 also being touted as a rugged scoot that can get a little down and dirty.
