The Vithalapur plant is Honda's biggest facility that is dedicated only for scooters.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has officially inaugurated a new assembly line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, marking a significant expansion in production capacity by nearly 650,000 units. In the calendar year (CY) 2023, Honda achieved a production volume of 43,84,599 units.
The Vithalapur facility stands as Honda's largest scooter-only plant globally. It produces popular models such as the Activa, Dio, Activa 125, and Dio 125. The facility also hosts a dedicated engine line, serving as a hub for the production of global engines. These engines, ranging from 250cc and above, power two-wheelers destined for international markets such as Thailand, the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Honda initiated production in 2001 at its inaugural plant in Manesar, Haryana. Subsequent expansions led to the establishment of the second plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan, in 2011, followed by the third in Narsapura, Karnataka, in 2013, and the fourth in Vithalapur in 2016. The latest addition, the third line at the Vithalapur facility, boasts a production capacity of nearly 650,000 units. Honda is strategically planning to increase the representation of female workers in the manufacturing area as part of its workforce diversity initiative.
