The Exter is the first Hyundai India model to get twin-cylinder technology for the CNG tanks.
Hyundai Motor India Limited has launched the CNG variant of the Exter micro SUV at ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is called the Exter Hy-CNG duo and is Hyundai India’s first car with twin-cylinder technology for the CNG tanks, similar to what Tata Motors offers in its CNG lineup.

The Exter Hy-CNG Duo is available in three variants – S, SX and SX Knight. The prices start at ₹8.50 lakh and go up to ₹9.38 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Exter CNG, available only in the mid-spec variants, primarily rivals the Tata Punch CNG which also gets a twin-cylinder technology. For reference, the Punch CNG is priced between ₹7.23 - 9.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The new CNG technology will help free up space in the boot, making CNG vehicles more practical along with being efficient. The Exter CNG gets two 30-litre tanks and Hyundai claims it has a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg. It gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 68 bhp and 95.2 Nm in CNG mode. In petrol mode, it produces 82 bhp and 114 Nm. Furthemore, the CNG kit is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Exter Hy-CNG Duo comes with features like automatic climate control, a sunroof, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, LED headlamps and taillamps, 15-inch alloy wheels and more. Safety features include six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESC, hill-start assist, etc.

Hyundai India recently launched the Exter Knight Edition as well and its prices start at ₹8.38 lakh. Furthermore, Hyundai India is close to breaching the 1 lakh sales milestone for the Exter micro SUV in just over a year, as the Korean brand has sold more than 93,000 units in India.
