Muñoz will succeed Jaehoon Chang, who is now being promoted to Vice Chair.

Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) has promoted José Muñoz to the role of company’s president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will take charge of these roles from January 1, 2025. Muñoz will succeed Jaehoon Chang, who has been promoted to Vice Chair of the Automotive Division of the Hyundai Motor Group.

Muñoz joined (HMC) as the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and as the President and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America in 2019. Three years later, he was appointed as one of the members of the Board of Directors of HMC and his responsibilities extended to include Europe, India, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

On Muñoz’s promotion, Chang said, “José is a proven leader with vast global experience and is ideally suited to lead Hyundai as competitiveness and business uncertainty increases. As recently outlined at our CEO Investor Day, we have a clear Hyundai Way vision to create a future centered on mobility and energy. Together with José and the rest of our leadership team, the future is very bright for Hyundai.”

Muñoz said, “Succeeding in this challenging industry requires excellence throughout the value chain, from design and engineering, to manufacturing, sales and service, along with a talented team that’s able to deliver every step of the way.”
