The blacked-out micro-SUV variant arrives on the back of over 100,000 Knight range sales since 2022, priced from ₹8.13 lakh.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched the Exter Knight, a black-themed edition of its compact SUV, extending a styling range that has now sold more than 100,000 units since it was first introduced in 2022. The new variant goes on sale across four trims, priced from ₹8,13,500 to ₹9,60,500 (ex-showroom), and will be available at Hyundai dealerships from this week.
The Exter Knight is distinguished by blacked-out exterior elements including matte black front and rear logos, dark grey bumper and side sill garnishes, and 15-inch alloy wheels finished in black with red front brake calipers. HMIL has paired this with a Knight-specific emblem, a detail the company has used across other models in its portfolio to signal the darker trim variant.
Inside, the cabin gets an all-black theme with brass accents on touchpoints, black semi-fabric seat upholstery, and amber-coloured footwell lighting on select variants. A black D-cut steering wheel is also offered, though only on higher trims.
Powertrain options remain unchanged from the standard Exter lineup. Buyers can choose a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine with either a five-speed manual or Hyundai's Smart Auto AMT, or the bi-fuel version running on petrol and CNG, paired with a manual gearbox. The Knight edition is offered in five colours: Titanium Black, Atlas White, Starry Night, Titan Grey and Golden Bronze.
Speaking on the launch, Amit Dhaundiyal, Head of Product Strategy and Planning at HMIL, said the Exter Knight built on the model's position as "a strong choice for customers seeking a stylish, feature-rich and dependable SUV," and that the Knight range had received "an overwhelming response" since its debut.
The move reflects a broader pattern in India's compact SUV segment, where cosmetic editions have become a low-cost route for automakers to sustain interest in ageing platforms without the expense of a full model change. The Exter, launched in 2023, competes in a crowded sub-4-metre micro SUV category against rivals such as the Tata Punch and Citroën C3, where styling differentiation increasingly matters as feature parity narrows between competitors.
CNG variants have also gained traction in this segment as buyers weigh running costs against fuel price volatility, a factor likely to sustain demand for the bi-fuel Exter Knight alongside its petrol counterparts.
Hyundai has leaned on its Knight branding across multiple models in India, including the Venue and Creta, treating it as a recurring identity rather than a one-off edition. The Exter Knight's arrival suggests the company intends to keep extending that strategy, as it looks to hold share in a segment where volumes remain sensitive to price and visual appeal rather than mechanical upgrades.
