India Captivates Global Attention in 2023: Google's Year in Search

According to Google's Year in Search 2023 report, India captured significant attention worldwide. From historical scientific achievements to solid performances in sports and entertainment, here's what dominated Google Search this year in India.

A major highlight was the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission to the moon in July-August, which topped news events searches nationally. It marked another landmark step for India's growing space program. People also showed keen interest in India's upcoming G20 presidency next year through search queries.

The recent India vs Australia matches scored high search volumes. Significantly, the Indian cricket team was ranked as the top trending globally, and Indian players like Shubman Gill and Rachin Ravindra also trended highly locally and internationally.

Indian movies, music and stars also gained major international fandom this year, as per Google. The Bollywood films Jawan, Gadar 2 and Pathaan were among the top trending movie searches locally and worldwide.

The song Kesariya from the film Brahmastra became the second most hummed song searched globally, while Actress Kiara Advani topped Indian celebrity searches and rose to the global actors list. Local OTT content dominated trending shows, with titles like Farzi, Asur, and Rana Naidu taking top spots.

India's growing influence in other spheres was also reflected in the Year in Search report. Searches around the new Women's Premier League and women's cricket showed interest in diversity in sports is on the rise. Popular memes, digital shows and recipes brought local Indian culture to the forefront. Travel searches indicated Southeast Asia as a favourite international destination for Indians, while local delicacies gained global popularity.
