Instagram Threads Hits 275 Million Active Monthly Users

Meta-owned text-based social network Instagram Threads has achieved a significant milestone, hitting 275 million monthly active users (MAUs), the company has announced.

"Yesterday we crossed 275M monthly active users on @Threads. A big thank you to everyone who's helped us get us this far. There's a lot more to do, and plenty of things to fix, but there's something exciting about this place," announced Adam Mosseri, who oversees both Threads and Instagram at Meta.

Threads Leading Text-Based Social Media

The platform, which debuted in July 2023 as an alternative to X, formerly Twitter, during its post-Musk acquisition exodus, has emerged as a major player in the text-based social media landscape. 

The growth of Instagram Threads has been particularly impressive in recent months, with user numbers jumping from 200 million in August to 275 million -- a surge of 75 million users in just three months. 

This follows earlier growth from 150 million users reported in April.

During Meta's third-quarter earnings call last week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Threads continues to attract approximately one million new sign-ups daily. 

Despite this robust growth, the platform faces ongoing challenges with content moderation.
