The Core Ultra 200V series boasts up to 120 TOPS across its CPU, GPU, and NPU.
Intel has launched its most efficient x86 processors to date, the Intel Core Ultra 200V series, codenamed Lunar Lake. Unveiled on Tuesday ahead of IFA 2024, these second-generation AI processors claim to offer exceptional performance, breakthrough power efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities.
The Core Ultra 200V series boasts up to 120 trillion operations per second (TOPS) across its CPU, GPU, and Neural Processing Unit (NPU), positioning Intel to compete strongly against AMD and Qualcomm. Notably, these processors are the first from Intel to meet Microsoft's Copilot+ standard.
Some key features and improvements of the 200V series include a 50% reduction in the package power consumption compared to its predecessor. With a fourth-generation NPU that is 4x more powerful than the previous generation, these processors are optimized for sustained AI workloads while maintaining energy efficiency.
The debut of Intel's new Xe2 graphics microarchitecture delivers a 30% average performance uplift, supporting up to three 4K monitors. The performance cores (P-cores) and the efficient cores (E-cores) have been reengineered to ensure cool and quiet performance. The new 200V series supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and up to three Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Intel has collaborated with over 100 integrated software vendors and developers to enable more than 300 AI-accelerated features through its AI PC Acceleration Program. This extensive ecosystem support allows users to leverage AI for various applications, including content creation, security, productivity, and gaming.
The new processors will power over 80 consumer designs from 20 leading manufacturers, including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung. Many of these designs will be Intel Evo Edition laptops, with features like cooler and quieter performance, long battery life, and improved security.
Consumer devices featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors are available for pre-order now and will be available globally starting September 24, 2024. Commercial devices built on the Intel vPro platform are expected early next year. All designs running the latest version of Windows will receive Copilot+ PC features as a free update beginning in November 2024.
Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group, stated, "Intel's newest Core Ultra processors set the industry standard for mobile AI and graphics performance and smash misconceptions about x86 efficiency. Only Intel has the scale, through our partnerships with ISVs and OEMs and the broader technology ecosystem, to provide consumers with a no-compromise AI PC experience."
