This International Yoga Day, we bring you tips to keep your car in top condition.
Celebrating International Yoga Day is all about checking your body’s fitness! And while you’re working on keeping yourself fit, why not keep your vehicles fit as well? And for that, here are a few tips you should keep in mind to have your car in top condition.
The most basic thing you can do is maintain the correct tyre pressure in your car. Always follow the recommended pressure by your manufacturer. There are 2 places to find this and one is on the car and the other in this owner's manual.
There’s a simple way to also check if your tyre has degraded. Take a coin, place it between the treads and the deeper it goes, the more life your tyres have. If not then time to change them. Wheel alignment, too, helps extending the life of tyres so do that at regular intervals.
While you’re near the tyres, make sure there’s no residual mud lining up inside the wheel well. Not only does it help make the car look clean, it also helps reduce imbalance in the car.
Checking oil levels in your car is also important. And to check that, you have a dipstick. Take the stick out, wipe it clean, dip it and take it out again. If you can see the oil between these two dots, you’re fine. Else it’s time for a refill.
And in the process also locate the coolant reservoir and see if you have enough coolant. It should be between the minimum and maximum levels.
While you’re checking the oil level, ensure that the oil filter was also changed recently and at the correct intervals and that your air filter isn’t also getting clogged.
It’s the onset of monsoon in most parts of India, so you need to have your wipers working in perfect order. If there are any lines they leave behind on the windshield it may be time to change the wiper blades. And while you’re at it, just check if there’s enough cleaning liquid, if not then it’s time to top up.
One of the most important safety features in a car is the brakes and you need to ensure they’re working properly. And you must know the signs of wear and tear. Hear some squeaky noises or notice vibrations in the brake pedals and steering wheel? It’s time to head to the workshop and get them changed. ASAP!
Cleaning the AC vents is also very important. Yes, servicing the AC is one aspect, but a simple cleaning of the vents is a starting point to ensure the air flows well.
Finally, it goes without saying that you regularly get your car serviced. Because that’s where small problems like leakages get discovered and can be plugged before this blows up into a bigger issue.
