With the adventure segment heating up in India, the KLX 230 S looks like a solid contender for riders looking to try dual-sport riding.
Kawasaki seems to be in the final stages of preparing its localised KLX 230 S dual-sport motorcycle for the Indian market. The brand recently released a teaser image on its social handle, confirming the launch of a new bike. The KLX 230 S test mules were spotted several times this year. The Japanese manufacturer will heavily localise the production of the upcoming dual-sport bike, which should help it position it at a very competitive price point.
Mechanically, the KLX 230 S will get the 233cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which produces 19.73 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 20.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It comes paired with a six-speed transmission, which suggests that it should be able to do highway touring without much stress.
However, Kawasaki has made a few notable revisions to the 2024 KLX 230 S. Engineering updates, including a redesigned sub-frame that provides increased suspension travel and accommodates an extended seat design. Kawasaki has also refreshed the motorcycle's aesthetics with updated bodywork and new graphics. The model will be available in two colourways: the brand's signature Kawasaki Green and a new grey option.

Adhering to classic dual-sport principles, the Kawasaki KLX 230 S features a compact bikini fairing, elevated front fender, and minimalist tail section. Its adventure-oriented stance is supported by an 830 mm seat height and a substantial 210 mm of ground clearance.
It employs wire-spoke wheels with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear setup, fitted with dual-purpose knobby tyres. Braking is handled by disc systems on both wheels, while the suspension utilises conventional telescopic forks and a linked monoshock system.

The teaser mentions that Kawasaki will launch the KLX 230 S in October 17. It might be priced around the ₹2 lakh mark (ex-showroom), which will position it directly against the Hero Xpulse 200 4V in the entry-level adventure segment.
