A 125cc engine jumpstarts the big beast.

In the world of motorcycle engines, we're accustomed to hearing about engines with one or two cylinders, with the max being six cylinder engines found on the likes of the Honda Gold Wing or the larger BMWs. But picture this: a motorcycle engine with a whopping 48 cylinders. That's exactly what the Whitelock 'Tinker Toy' is. Created by Simon Whitelock in 2003, this unique bike holds the Guinness World Record for the most cylinders in a vehicular engine. A one-of-a-kind motorcycle, the Whitelock 'Tinker Toy', with a 48-cylinder engine, is heading for auction.

Nestled within its custom frame lies a 4.2-litre engine, meticulously crafted by combining 16 Kawasaki KH250 three-cylinder engines. That's right, six banks, each with eight cylinders, unleashing a symphony of power unlike any other. This mechanical marvel is even street-legal, though the thought of navigating traffic on this beast is enough to send shivers down anyone's spine.

Building this in't for the faint of heart. A scooter's 125cc engine serves as the "donkey engine" to kickstart the main, while a car alternator provides the necessary juice. Power is transmitted through a BMW K100 gearbox. Heavily reinforced Honda Goldwing brakes and suspension keep this 600 kg behemoth in check.

A bespoke exhaust system channels the symphony of cylinders, and the front end of a Honda Gold Wing seamlessly integrates. The original fuel tank even found a new purpose as a cover for the electronics after being transformed into a stretched and widened masterpiece.

Owning this isn't just about riding a motorcycle; it's about owning a conversation starter, an engineering marvel, and a true collector's item. If you have the means and the desire to own a piece of history, mark your calendars! The Tinker Toy will be auctioned by Bonhams at the International Classic Motorcycle Show in Stafford on April 21st. With estimates ranging between £40,000 and £60,000 (Rs 42-63 lakh), this is one 48-cylinder beast that someone special one would own.
